Friday Favorites: Slow Hobbies at Home
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve found myself drawn to slower, more analog ways of spending time at home.
This Week’s Favorite
Slow Hobbies
There’s something quietly grounding about hobbies that don’t require a screen, a schedule or even a clear outcome.
The kind you can return to in the afternoon, pick up where you left off and ease into without much thought… or pressure of achieving some productivity pinnacle.
Some of the ones I find myself coming back to are:
- Journaling (been playing around with different types and styles)
- Reading something slowly, thoughtfully and annotating along the way
- Puttering, tidying and making things “just so”
All are simple. Each brings its own pace into the day.
✨ Whimsical Favorites
- A simple notebook (or a more involved journaling ecosystem)
- Pens you enjoy using
- A book you can dip in and out of
- A small creative project to keep nearby
Why I Love It
Slow hobbies create a kind of pause that’s hard to find elsewhere.
They don’t ask for urgency or productivity, just your attention.
And in that space, your home begins to feel a little more lived-in, a little more personal and a little more cozy.
A Simple Way to Try This at Home
Choose one small, analog activity to keep within reach this week.
Set it somewhere visible: a table, a corner, a chair you return to.
When you have a quiet moment, let yourself sit with it, even if it’s just for ten minutes.
