I find it really enhances a gathering when you have some lovely music playing in the background.
My Main Squeeze and I love our sing along nights at home. That playlist typically consists of some of our favorite ‘90s songs we came of age to. Oftentimes, he pulls up bands unfamiliar to me but that quickly became new favorites.
I’ve been getting lost lately in Spotify’s playlists. They have a playlist for everything under the sun, it seems like. And then there’s the targeted ads on social media.
A lot of the time it comes down to personal choice and the kind of music you jive with. Other times it boils down the kind of atmosphere you want to create for your gathering. And yet other times it's appropriate to play to the group and occasion.
If my aim is to create a chill dinner party vibe, then I’ll choose a playlist that has jazzy undertones or bossanova covers.
If two of us are in the kitchen making dinner, then it’d be folksy acoustic singer-songwriter vibes.
Ladies craft night? Classic 60s soft rock.
Afternoon tea party? Classical covers of pop songs or Jane Austen inspired soundtracks.
Summertime backyard barbeque with a mixed crowd? Mixture of rock, classic pop, oldies but goodies, well known bands, lesser known bands and all those random favorites.
And yes, there are times when a lovely classical playlist makes the gathering special.
When choosing a playlist for your next gathering, be intentional. Think about who’s going to attend and the atmosphere you wish to create for your guests. A thoughtfully chosen playlist can add layers to the efforts you’ve already made to create a welcoming home and environment.
Tell me about you! Do you have a go to playlist for your gatherings?
