I know what you’re thinking. How do you pronounce that word? Juuust kidding!
Here’s a refresher anyway:
Sounds like: hyoo-guh
Ever since being introduced to the word and, more than that, the the whole mind-blowing idea
of hygge, I’ve been thinking of how it can be incorporated into pretty much every season. Winter months are a no-brainer of how to hygge-up your living environment. Fall, too, with all the sweaters and blankets and drinks to warm you up.
But what about spring?
Left-overs from winter bleed into the early spring days when the wind still whips around and the air is still pretty icy. I like drinking more hot tea than cold water. And I still very much like wrapping myself up in a thick blanket while getting in my home improvement binge fix.
It takes me an extra long time to stop reaching for my scarf in favor of a sweatshirt. But still a hoodie!
Some other ways I like to integrate that hygge feeling in springtime are to:
Diffuse my favorite floral essential oils.
Switch out darker colored blankets for lighter colors but still soft and cozy!
Throw all the windows open on the first warm day and air out the house.
Refresh my space by rotating the decor.
Switch out seasonal linens. Put away the flannel!
Curl up with The Blue Castle and enjoy reading the familiar story again -- 27th year in a row!
Stop what I’m doing to listen to a thunderstorm.
Keep my bedroom windows open at night for that cool, fresh air.
Wake up to the birds chirping and chatting to each other in the early morning dawn.
Pause and notice the way the breeze billows the curtains and how the sunlight filters through.
Bring the water to a boil for another cup of tea.
Tidy up just a little bit more.
Take lots of pics of the cutest pup.
Add a plant to my bedroom.
Intentionally slow down to be present and thankful while executing domestic chores.
Sit in quiet reflection.
Practice gratitude.
Many of these are things I try to do throughout the year, so you may see them pop up again! But, there’s something about the Spring that just makes me want to stop and take extra care in noticing all the life that’s blooming and developing and growing. Spring is such a reminder of the goodness of life and, that, to me, is what Springtime Hygge is about.
Tell me about you! What are some ways you add some hygge cozy to your home life in spring?
