Friday Favorites: Heirloom Details at Home
This week, I found myself noticing the pieces in my home that have a sense of history to them. I especially gravitated towards the ones that didn’t start with me.
This Week’s Favorite
Heirloom Paintings
Some of my absolute favorite treasures on the walls of my home are the paintings from my Oma and Opa’s house.
Their style was very much old-world European, shaped by their upbringing in Eastern Europe over a century ago.
The oil paintings are framed in ornate gold frames that have seen better days. Regardless of the wear, I love the richness they bring to each room.
They don’t just fill a space on the wall. They give a sense of history. History and heritage.
Why I Love It
There’s something very grounding about having pieces in your home that feel connected to another time.
They add depth in a way that newer pieces often don’t. They remind you that a home can be layered slowly, over time and generationally.
A Simple Way to Try This at Home
Look for one piece in your home that carries a story. It could be something passed down, something found or something kept.
Instead of replacing it or blending it in, let it stand out.
Sometimes one meaningful piece can shape an entire room.
